Fiberglass World Fiberglass World was established as a world wide trading site for information to promote trade in the Fiberglass, Composites and Resins Industry. Hand Lay-Up and Spray Up One of the most basic of FRP manufacturing processes, Hand Lay-up involves applying and forming each resin/glass laminate layer manually into an open mold until the desired part thickness is achieved. Because of the close control of material application, it is the method of choice for producing many fiberglass parts.

Spray layup, or "sprayup", is another open mold process, differing from hand layup in that it uses mechanical spraying and chopping equipment for depositing the resin and glass reinforcement. This process allows a greater production rate and more unifo rm parts than does hand layup, and often uses more complex molds. We custom design fiberglass products to meet custom requirements. There are different types of open mold laminating: hand lay-up and spray-up laminating. The quickest method of lamination is spray-up lamination. Hanlon has in-house production equipment to quickly produce spray-up fiberglass laminated parts. Very similar to Hand Lay-Up, this process is typically used in low to medium volume production. Apr; Wet lay-up using hand or spray techniques is one of the simplest methods of combining a fiber reinforcement with a solidifying resin to form a composite structure.

This article describes several wet lay-up processes - including contact molding, spray molding, vacuum bag molding, and autoclave molding - suited for making parts on open-faced. Spray-Up This process utilizes a chop gun to simultaneously spray the fiberglass, catalyst, and resin at the required thickness on the mold.

Some of the benefits of this type of fiberglass manufacturing include: low tooling cost, typically lower part cost, parts that are smooth on one side, can be used for low and medium production quantities.

LAYUP, SPRAYUP. Hand lay-up and spray-up are low to medium volume molding methods suitable for making boats, tanks, housings, machine components and other shapes. These processes provide only one finished surface. Several of its major benefits include low tooling cost and the ability to make extremely large parts economically.

Fiberglass spray lay-up process is similar to the hand lay-up process. The difference comes from the application of the fiber and resin material to the mold.

Spray-up is an open-molding composites fabrication process where resin and reinforcements are sprayed onto a reusable mold. The most common manufacturing process for fiberglass is the wet lay-up or chopper gun spray process using an open mold.

The shape of the part is determined by the shape of the mold, and the mold surface is typically in contact with the exterior of the part. Mold release is first applied to the mold to prevent the fiberglass part from adhering.

Fiberglass, as a term, is really a misnomer. Glass fiber is one of the many materials that can be used along with resin (plastic) to create a strong and light composite structure. Those materials include glass-fiber (of course), cloth (cotton or man-made), carbon-fiber, non-woven glass or carbon mat, coir (a coconut fiber), modal (beech tree.

Sprayup is a semi-manual proces. s in which resin and fiber are applied to an open mold with a spray gun (the gun that cuts glass fiber, or roving, and applies it to the part is known as a "chopper gun"). As in hand layup, gel coat is often applied as one step in the fabrication process.

Spray-Up also known as chop method of creating fiberglass objects by spraying short strands of glass out of a pneumatic gun. This method is used often when one side of the finished product is not seen, or when large quantities of a product must be made cheaply and quickly without regards to strength.

- Resin Infusion - This method is similar to vacuum bagging, except that the layup is done dry and when the vacuum is drawn, resin is allowed to flow into the layup at one or more points until in completely. Open molding – or hand lay-up/spray-up molding – is a cost-effective solution for lower volume/larger structural parts that still require complexity and/or a finished outside surface. The open molding method can accommodate large parts, like those commonly used in the agricultural or marine industries.

A common fiberglass repair is replacing damaged core, often because of water absorption. In many of these repairs, the fiberglass “skins” are in great shape but need to be peeled off to replace the core.

Bonding the original skin back onto the new core can save significant time and money. The following is a complete list of all publications issued by NIOSH. To view publication numbers, click the "Show Publication Numbers" link at the top of the list.

Hand lay-up technique is the oldest method of woven composite manufacturing [30].The samples are prepared by respecting some steps.

First of all, the mold surface is treated by release antiadhesive agent to avoid the sticking of polymer to the surface [31].Then, a thin plastic sheet is applied at the top and bottom of the mold plate to get a smooth surface of the product. Heavier fiberglass cloth may not be as transparent.

If your goal is better abrasion resistance, you need to use a heavier 10 to oz. fiberglass cloth for your layup. When buying reinforcement materials, it’s important to note the following: Woven and nonwoven material.
